NEEDLES – A mother of six was arrested for the physical and emotional abuse of four of her children and her husband is also wanted in connection with the abuse. According to authorities, the abuse was ongoing for an extended period of time and consisted of beating with objects and forcing a child or children to eat suckers containing marijuana wax. The oldest child was the babysitter for the five younger children and was forced to stay home to watch the children while their mother Suzanne Torres, 30, and her husband, Victor Lawrence used illegal drugs inside the home; many times in the presence of the children officials said.
Torres was arrested on Tuesday night just before midnight at her home in the 1000 block of Lilyhill Drive in Needles. Torres was booked into the Needles jail for cruelty causing injury to a child and is being held on $100,000 bail. Lawrence is also wanted in connection with the abuse of the children, but authorities believe he may have fled to Arizona or Utah. The case remains under investigation, and detectives are seeking any information that may be pertinent to the case; including the whereabouts of Victor Lawrence. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Caronna at (760) 326-9200.
