BARSTOW, Ca. – A mother and son were arrested after stealing a backpack from a Barstow Outlets and using the credit card inside, police said.
On Friday, August 23, 2019, at around 1:13 p.m., Barstow Police responded to the Barstow Outlets in the 2700 block of Tanger Way regarding a theft. Upon arrival the officer learned that the victim was in the restroom when the suspect entered and took her pink backpack. Surveillance video in the area was reviewed and showed a black male adult running with the victim’s backpack. He got into a newer white Toyota and fled the location. The license plate was able to be determined by the video but it came back to a rental car company.
As the victim continued to make her report, she received a text alert notifying her that her credit card was being used at a Barstow Walmart store. An officer located the suspect vehicle parked in the parking lot. Both were found inside the store, the male suspect who took the backpack and a female making a purchase of over $2000. The officer checked the receipts and confirmed that the purchases were made with the victim’s credit card.
Both suspects who were identified as Victor Jackson, 20, and his mother Tameka Washington, 44, were arrested and charged for P.C. 459 Burglary and P.C. 530.5 Identity Theft.
A report will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office for review and filing for the above charges.
