APPLE VALLEY, Ca. – An LAPD officer was arrested today for the attempted murder of another officer on Sunday.
At around 1:17 a.m. deputies from the Victor Valley Station responded to a report of a shooting near the Stoddard Wells Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) area. When emergency medical personnel and deputies arrived they found a 48-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his upper body. The victim was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was identified as an off-duty LAPD officer Ishmail Tamayo, 44, of Ontario. Tamayo was arrested without incident and was booked at the High Desert Detention Center. Through investigation, it was learned that Tamayo was camping with two other friends in the OHV area over the weekend. Overnight, at around 1:15 a.m. Tamayo shot the victim in the upper body. It is unknown what led to the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.
