PHELAN – One person was killed and two were injured in a traffic collision on CA-138 near Centola Road on Sunday.
The collision was reported just after 5:00 a.m. and involved a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 1997 Mercedes-Benz. Through investigation, CHP officers learned that that Mercedes was traveling eastbound on SR-138 approaching Centola Road at an unknown rate of speed. The Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling westbound on SR-138, just west of Centola Road. For reasons that remain under investigation, the Mercedes crossed onto westbound lanes striking the Chevrolet.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, a 36-year-old Running Springs man and a 25-year-old Ontario female passenger in the Mercedes, both sustained moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital. One person, a 26-year-old Fontana man who was driving the Mercedes-Benz was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicles blocked the roadway and passing vehicles were diverted by the California Highway Patrol through the shoulder. There is no additional information available at this time, information will be updated as it becomes available.
