PALM SPRING, Calif. – Palm Springs Police believe that what they initially believed was a traffic collision may, in fact, have been a homicide.
On February 3, 2019, at around 11:40 p.m., Palm Springs Police officers responded to the area of Sunny Dunes Road near El Placer Road for a traffic collision. When they arrived they located a vehicle occupied by a female and two males, all 20-years-old or younger. All occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Through further investigation into the collision, it was revealed that the occupants may have been homicide victims.
At 12:15 a.m. police received a report of a man lying on the road on Canon Drive south of Theresa Drive. When they arrived they found the man who apparently died as a result of a gunshot wound. Police are attempting to determine if the two incidents may be related since they were in the same general area and close in time. Detectives have a male person of interest in custody for unrelated charges.
PSPD Detectives are asking anyone living in the area of Canon Drive and E. Sunny Dunes Road that has street view surveillance cameras to please review your footage on 02/03/2019 from about 11:20 p.m. until 02/04/2019 at about 1:00 a.m.
The identity of the victims will not be released until family has been notified. The identity of the person of interest is also being withheld at this time.
