PERRIS, Ca. – A Perris woman was arrested for fraudulently obtaining Section 8 housing, resulting in $10,000 in overpayment.
A fraud investigation was prompted by a separate criminal investigation November 2019. The investigation led to a search warrant at a home in the 1100 block of Bluestem Trail in the City of Perris. The resident, Michelle Tafoya, 40, was at home during the search. Evidence was recovered from the home showing that Tafoya had provided false statements and documents in order to obtain benefits from the Riverside County Housing Authority.
At the conclusion of the search, Tafoya was arrested for Grand Theft from the Housing Authority, Perjury, Providing False Documents to Receive Financial Benefits, and Welfare Fraud.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will proactively investigate the misuse of government services and funding. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Deputy Bo Sivilay with the Special Enforcement Team at 951-210-1000.
