YUCCA VALLEY, Ca. – A deputy-involved shooting took place on Sunday night that killed a pursuit suspect, authorities said.
At around 9:39 p.m. Victor Valley Station deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person and vehicle, a semi-truck at a home. The reporting party told dispatchers that he was following the vehicle near the Lucerne Valley area as he described the vehicle. Deputies arrived and began following the vehicle with lights and sirens activated, but the suspect failed to yield. He continued onto Highway 247 while Sheriff’s Aviation was called to assist.
Spike strips were deployed twice, and the suspect fired at the deputies. The deputies shot back. The pursuit still continued on Highway 62, the suspect in an attempt to get away, rammed the marked patrol unit and shot at a deputy. The deputies returned fire causing the semi-truck to leave the roadway on the south side of Highway 62 and Pinion. The suspect was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. One of the deputies sustained minor injuries, not as a result of the shooting. He did not need medical attention, authorities said.
Homicide investigators responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation. No suspects are outstanding at this time. No further information is available for release.
