RIVERSIDE – A 51-year-old Michigan man was arrested following a pursuit, and crash on Sunday morning. The suspect, Maurice Ruffin was driving in the area of Magnolia Avenue and Overland Street leaving a motel when officers attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation.
Ruffin failed to yield which initiated a short pursuit. The suspect came to a crashing stop just over a mile away, when he hit a traffic signal at Magnolia Avenue and Jefferson Street landing the vehicle in the Ramona High School football field. The suspect exited the vehicle and hid under nearby bleachers, where he was taken into custody shortly after without further incident.
When officers searched the vehicle they located over an ounce of cocaine and a large amount of cash. A search warrant was obtained and served on Ruffin’s motel room, where another 2 kilos (nearly 4 a/2 pounds) of cocaine were found.
Ruffin was arrested and booked into jail for evading arrest and the narcotics violation.
