SAN BERNARDINO – A 30-year-old San Bernardino man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen car, officials said. At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night San Bernardino County Sheriff’s dispatch received the report that a red 2000 Honda Civic with white rims was stolen.
Shortly after a vehicle with a matching description was seen getting on the westbound 10 freeway from Anderson Street in the City of Loma Linda. The suspect, later identified as Michael Edward Ramsey sped away onto the freeway. The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren but the suspect continued on his way failing to yield.
He continued for several miles driving at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour without regard for public safety. He exited the freeway and continued on running red lights and stop signs. He eventually stopped and continued to flee on foot. Ramsey broke into a garage near 27th and N Crescent in the City of San Bernardino.
The vehicle was returned to the owner, who was able to drive it home. Ramsey was learned to be on active felony probation for the possession of a stolen vehicle/grand theft auto.
“As part of Governor Jerry Brown’s Realignment Plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court Decision requiring the state to lower its prison population; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local supervision through county Probation,” Sheriff’s officials said in the news release.
