SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A 21-year-old San Bernardino man was arrested for a string of robberies that began on sales apps authorities said.
Several reports were made beginning in March 2019, about suspects who arranged to purchase items that the victims were selling but drove away with the items without paying. The reports were made by victims in Highland, San Bernardino, Redlands, Yucaipa, and Fontana. Typically, the suspects would arrange to meet the victims near their homes to purchase electronics including iPhones and iPads.
The suspects would arrive in a red Dodge Caravan with a female juvenile inside the vehicle with them. During the San Bernardino robbery, the male suspect produced a firearm and robbed the victim. “During other incidents, Valdez either assaulted the victims or drove off without paying for the electronics when inspecting them,” authorities said in a news release.
On Friday, April 26, 2019, at around 3:08 p.m., deputies noticed a red Dodge Caravan that they believed was the suspect vehicle. They stopped the vehicle near Mountain Avenue and Citrus Street in the City of San Bernardino. The occupants were identified Marcos Valdez and Andrea Martinez-Delgado. Valdez, who was a person of interest in the incidents, and was arrested and booked for PC 211 Robbery, at the conclusion of the interview and investigation.
Investigators are releasing Valdez’s booking photograph because they believe there are victims who have not been identified and/or did not report the crimes.
