Suspect Arrested After Shooting a Woman and Man in Phelan Drive-by Shooting

PHELAN – A Phelan woman and Adelanto man were shot while sitting in a vehicle near La Mesa and Johnson Road in Phelan.

Authorities said that the 26-year-old female victim called 911 to report the shooting at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018. She reported that she and a 36-year-old male were able to drive to a gas station. She said that both she and the male had been shot at by Hector Rodriguez, 44, of Hesperia, as he drove past them as they sat in the vehicle. When deputies and medical aid arrived the woman, who had a gunshot wound to her abdomen was airlifted to a trauma center. The male victim was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance for the treatment of two gunshot wounds to his arm.

Suspect Rodriguez is known to both of the victims, but authorities have not yet determined the motive of the shooting. Rodriguez and his vehicle were located at a Phelan home in the 4800 block of La Mesa Road. He was arrested for attempted murder . Deputies located gun magazines and ammunition inside his vehicle. The shooting remains under investigation.
