Suspect Shot and Killed After Standoff

HEMET – A man was shot and killed by police after a several-hour-long standoff Sunday morning. At around 10:30 a.m. Perris Station deputies were dispatched the community of Green Acres for the report of a man walking in the residential area who was armed with a firearm and hatchet.

In addition to the deputies, California Highway Patrol officers, Hemet Police and Cal Fire also responded to assist. When they arrived on the 26800 Block of Lawrence Court they attempted to make contact with the subject now identified as 36-year-old, Riverside resident Robert Lourenco. They attempted to negotiate with the suspect asking him to relinquish his weapons or surrender for a peaceful resolution.

Eventually, the male suspect pointed the gun at officers causing them to fire at the suspect, who died at the scene as a result of the shooting. The suspects and officers’ names remain undisclosed at this time. The officers involved, one CHP officer and deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department have been placed on administrative leave as part of department protocol.
