The Barstow area California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a chain-reaction traffic collision that sent four to the hospital Tuesday evening. At around 7:45 p.m. a 911 call was made reporting the multiple vehicle traffic collision on the Southbound I-15 north of the City of Barstow.
When they arrived, CHP officers learned that the female driver in a Dodge Durango was driving southbound on the I-15, north of Old SR-58 approaching stopped traffic ahead. The driver of the Dodge, for reasons that remain under investigation, failed to stop causing her to slam into the back of a Nissan Pathfinder. As a result of the collision, the force pushed the Pathfinder into the back of a Honda Civic. The Civic was also pushed into a Chevrolet Malibu, that was also stopped ahead of it.
Three of the occupants were airlifted to Loma Linda University Hospital for the treatment of their injuries, and one suffering from bruising and other minor to moderate injuries was transported to Barstow Community Hospital.
CHP officials said that drug and alcohol are not a factor in the collision and the collision remains under investigation at this time.
