DESERT HOT SPRINGS – Bubbling Wells Elementary School was placed on a brief lockdown during a failure to yield vehicle pursuit that turned into a foot pursuit near school grounds on Thursday.
At around 2:55 p.m.Desert Hot Springs police attempted to stop a vehicle without license plates near Palm Driver and Dillon Road in Desert Hot Springs. The vehicle ignored lights and sirens from the patrol car leading to a pursuit.
Eventually, the vehicle stopped and two male subjects, later identified as Christian Salas and Juan Dorado fled on foot away from the vehicle. The officers caught up to both subjects and took them into custody. The driver of the vehicle, Angelica Cortina, a Desert Hot Springs woman was also taken into custody The vehicle was found to be stolen from Nevada and numerous rounds of live ammunition and a replica firearm were located inside the vehicle.
Cortina was arrested and booked into RSO Banning Jail for CVC 2800.2-Evading Arrest, CVC 10851(a)-Vehicle Theft, PC 496-Possession of Stolen Property and PC 30305(a)(1)-Convicted Felon in Possession of Ammunition. Salas and Dorado were booked into RSO Banning Jail for several additional felony charges. No one was injured as a result of the incident.
