MENIFEE – A suspected DUI hit-and-run traffic collision caused by a convicted DUI driver with a suspended license left two critically injured on Thursday. Just before 2:00 a.m. officers from the Menifee Police Department were dispatched to a major injury traffic collision in the 27000 block of Newport Road. Upon arrival, officers learned that one of the drivers fled on foot.
The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Temecula resident, Matthew Stockdale, who had a suspended license for a prior DUI was later located at his home. He was suspected of driving under the influence at the time of the crash and was taken into custody. Stockdale was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on felony DUI and Hit and Run charges.
Three occupants in the other vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, that was broadsided by Stockdale’s Ford Explorer,were transported to the hospital for the treatment of critical injuries. The road was closed for an investigation and reopened at around 7:40 a.m. Anyone with information on this investigation is encouraged to call Deputy Cail at the Perris Sheriff’s Station, (951) 210-1000.
