RIVERSIDE – Two women were arrested for the theft of baby formula on Wednesday night. At around 7:40 p.m. the two female suspects were in the Target store located in the 2700 block of Canyon Springs Parkway allegedly stealing over $1000 worth of baby formula. Loss prevention officers made contact with the suspects, who had a 2-year-old baby with them. The females began to fight off the loss prevention officers and sprayed them with pepper spray. The small child was also sprayed during the altercation.
Both women fled the store with the small child before police arrived. Later, the same women were located at a Target in Hemet also attempting to steal baby formula. Loss Prevention officers were able to determine that the woman went to a total of four stores that day stealing or attempting to steal baby formula. Police responded to the Hemet store and took custody of the women, who were both positively identified.
The child was taken to the hospital due to her being sprayed with the pepper spray during the earlier altercation with loss prevention officers. The child was later released to a family member. The suspects, 29-year-old San Bernardino resident, Chanel Walker and 20-year-old Rialto resident, Alyssa Luces were arrested and booked into jail for robbery, conspiracy to commit theft, possession and the use of pepper spray, child endangerment, and false impersonation.
