HELENDALE – Three Helendale men were arrested for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a criminal act authorities said.
The arrest was made on Friday night after a 17-year-old male victim was hit in the head with an unknown object and was in need of medical aid. Authorities and emergency medical personnel responded to the 13700 block of Smithson Road in Helendale. The victim was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.
Deputies began investigating the incident and learned that the victim and the suspects were at a bonfire at the incident location. “The suspects were upset with the victim due to an earlier altercation the victim was involved in with one of their friends,” Victor Valley Sheriff’s spokeswoman Pamela Hoffman said in a news release. “At some point during the evening, one of the suspects obtained a bat from his vehicle and hit the victim in the head with it.”
Through investigation, deputies learned that the suspects, identified as Jason Sherwood, 21, Christopher Michael Sherwood, 18, and Jirmarcus David Dupree, 25, all of Helendale had talked earlier in the day about assaulting the victim if he attended the bonfire. All three were arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center and are being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail. They are scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon.
