MUSCOY – A 2-year-old girl is deceased as a result of a gunshot wound inflicted on her by her 4-year-old male cousin officials said.
On Friday, July 20, 2018, at around 9:16 a.m. deputies and medical aid responded to a home in the 2700 block of Duffy Street in Muscoy. When deputies arrived they found the 2-year-old girl who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The small child was rushed to the hospital where she died as a result of her injuries just after 10:00 a.m. Through investigation, it was determined that the 4-year-old boy accidentally shot his cousin while handling the gun. It was also learned that the handgun that was left accessible to the children belonged to Cesar Lopez, 53, a convicted felon.
Lopez was arrested and will be booked for Child Endangerment and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available for release at this time.
