YUCAIPA – The wounded 16-year-old juvenile left behind a Yucaipa 7-Eleven store has been linked to a residential burglary earlier that evening.
On Saturday, July 14, 2018, sometime before 6:13 p.m., the teen male was shot when attempting to burglarize a home in the 33000 block of Wallace Way in the City of Yucaipa. The homeowner, a 69-year-old man noticed the suspects attempt to force entry into his home through a backyard window. As the suspects attempted to flee when confronted by the homeowner, he armed himself with a handgun and fired once toward the suspects shooting the 16-year-old suspect. Around 30 minutes after, the homeowner reported the attempted burglary but did not tell authorities that he had shot at the suspects.
The injured suspect was dropped off behind the 7-Eleven location at Yucaipa Blvd and 14th Street by two black males and a female in a Ford Mustang GT, all of whom are yet to be identified. On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, a search warrant was served at the home involved in the attempted burglary where evidence was collected confirming that he had shot at the suspects. The Ford Mustang was also located in the City of Indio. Authorities obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, they located evidence related to the attempted burglary.
No arrests have been made and the injured 16-year-old remains hospitalized in stable condition. The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for the filing of Criminal Charges against the attempted burglary suspects and/or the homeowner.
