YUCAIPA – The wounded 16-year-old juvenile left behind a Yucaipa 7-Eleven store has been linked to a residential burglary earlier that evening.
On Saturday, July 14, 2018, sometime before 6:13 p.m., the teen male was shot when attempting to burglarize a home in the 33000 block of Wallace Way in the City of Yucaipa. The homeowner, a 69-year-old man noticed the suspects attempt to force entry into his home through a backyard window. As the suspects attempted to flee when confronted by the homeowner, he armed himself with a handgun and fired once toward the suspects shooting the 16-year-old suspect. Around 30 minutes after, the homeowner reported the attempted burglary but did not tell authorities that he had shot at the suspects.

On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, a search warrant was served at the home involved in the attempted burglary where evidence was collected confirming that he had shot at the suspects. The Ford Mustang was also located in the City of Indio. Authorities obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, they located evidence related to the attempted burglary.
