UPDATE: (2-24-19) The suspect who was killed in the officer-involved shooting has been identified as Daniel David Messmer, 24, of Apple Valley. It was learned through investigation that Messmer was inside the Shell Station located at 17918 Bear Valley Road with a gun, leading to a “man with gun” report being made to Sheriff’s dispatch. During the call, it was reported that Messmer appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. When deputies arrived, Messmer was located in the desert area east of the Shell Station.
VICTORVILLE, Calif. – Details behind an officer-involved shooting that killed an armed suspect on Saturday remain sparse.
At around 4:15 p.m., Victorville police made contact with an armed suspect that despite deputy commands, continued to point his gun at them. The male suspect was in the desert area in the 17900 block of Bear Valley Road in the City of Victorville between Victor Valley College and the Shell Gas station.
Officers found the man armed with a handgun and demanded several times that he dropped his weapon. The male suspect failed to comply and pointed a gun at the deputies, causing at least one deputy to shoot at the suspect. The suspect who has not been identified by authorities as this time was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics.
