VICTORVILLE – For several days leading up to Christmas a Facebook group called High Desert Exchange—HDX; owned by the owner of Simple Auto Sales, Azmi Alsanam has been giving away cash prizes to their members for Christmas.
The amounts given were $50-$100 per winner which is chosen by an online random number picking application. On Christmas Day, the final day of the giveaway, Azmi Alsanam decided to offer a very special gift to High Desert Homeless Services (HDHS); a Victorville Homeless Shelter that services those in San Bernardino County. HDHS provides for all of the needs of the clients during their 30-90 day stay at the shelter and the clients all are required to seek employment or work during their stay. Training is provided to help those who need to create a resume and seek employment, making the potential for success and the actual success for clients quite impressive.
Alsanam, known for giving to those most in need in the High Desert community, on Monday, December 26, 2016, went to the Homeless Shelter located at 14049 Amargosa Road in the City of Victorville. Several times in the past, Alsanam has come through for the shelter with donations to help a client with brand new shoes and socks for a new job, to help the shelter with a van rental to take the clients to the circus, and several other donations. This time, the gift went directly to the hands of the clients in the form of $20 cash for each and every one of the approximately 55 clients from the newborn to the elderly; all received this gift.
Azmi, along with his wife and three children went to the shelter and began handing out the gifts to the clients. “A couple clients started crying it was very emotional,” said Jimmy Waldron, Executive Director of HDHS. The clients graciously accepted the gifts given to them by a family who was a stranger to them, making the gift even more special, reminding them that even those outside of the shelter walls care about their happiness.
Anyone interested in donating to High Desert Homeless Services and would like to be part of making a difference for the homeless in the community can use the PayPal donation button on each page of the shelter website. Donations can also be walked into or sent to High Desert Homeless Services 14049 Amargosa Road Victorville, Ca. 92392. The Homeless Shelter is also in desperate need of vehicle donations and a box truck to pick up donations and has a Go Fund Me Account set up for those donations.
