VICTORVILLE – A 46-year-old Victorville man lost his life after a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision on Monday evening. The pedestrian, identified as Stacey Howard was crossing Amargosa Road north of Midtown Drive at approximately 5:40 p.m. when he was struck by a blue GMC Safari van that was traveling southbound. Howard sustained major head injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel at the scene.
The driver of the GMC remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Through investigation, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s MAIT (Major Accident Investigation Team) determined that after striking Howard the GMC carried him for a short distance before disengaging and coming to stop.
All lanes of Amargosa Road were closed from Midtown Drive to Dakota Street until around 1:00 p.m.while the investigation took place. Anyone with information about the collision should contact Deputies Brian LoVasco or Michael Cashion at the Hesperia and Apple Valley Stations.
