PHELAN – With a helmeted photo of himself, and a photo of his 2015 Suzuki motorcycle on his Facebook profile page, 41-year-old Victorville resident Peter Earl Hyatt proudly expressed his love for riding.
On Monday, October 10, 2016, Hyatt lost his life after being involved in a collision on Sheep Creek Road in Phelan. At around 5:30 a.m. the California Highway Patrol and emergency medical personnel responded to the report of the crash involving a Toyota pickup truck and the 2015 Suzuki motorcycle. When they arrived they located Hyatt lying on the roadway with a “weakening pulse”. Air ambulance helicopter availability information was requested but Hyatt succumbed to his injuries at the scene shortly after.
Through investigation, officers learned that both the motorcycle and the pickup were traveling northbound on Sheep Creek Road near Cactus Road. Hyatt attempted to pass the pickup truck in the southbound lane when he struck the side of the truck, causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle.
Hyatt was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries reported as a result of the collision.
