SAN BERNARDINO – Reckless driving by a 19-year-old Victorville man is believed to be the cause of a fatal collision on Friday officials said.
At around 3:45 p.m. a 40-year-old Baldwin Park woman was driving his 2006 Nissan southbound on Cajon Boulevard, south of Cleghorn Road. Gonzalo Garcia was driving a 2000 Chevrolet northbound on Cajon Boulevard, approaching Cleghorn Road. Witnesses reported that Garcia began passing vehicles on the left side over double yellow lines as the Nissan approached.
“ Garcia took evasive action by swerving left while the driver of the Nissan swerved right,” CHP officials said. “The vehicles collided head on, causing the Chevrolet to travel out of control down an embankment.”
Garcia and his passenger were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. The driver of the Nissan, died as a result of her injuries. The identity of the deceased woman is not being released at this time so that her family can first be notified.
