VICTORVILLE – A 26-year-old Victorville woman was arrested after her toddler son was located alone in the rain surrounded by a pack of dogs Wednesday morning.
At around 10:15 a.m. deputies from the Victorville station were dispatched to Brentwood park in the City of Victorville after a reporting party called 911 to report the incident. When they arrived they located the 2-year-old child who was only wearing only a soiled diaper while in the rain surrounded by the dogs; who authorities said seemed protective of the child.
A Sergeant, who was the first to arrive was able to get the boy to safety and locate his home, which was around the corner from the park. When they got to home in the 14000 block of Dapple Court they found the door open and the dogs from the park inside the home. The mother of the child, identified as Cassandra Bustamante and her two other young children were inside the home. Bustamante was sleeping and did not know the toddler left the home.
Children and Family Services (CFS) responded to the home due to both the circumstances and condition of the home. CFS took the children into custody, but later released the children to their father. Bustamante was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for child cruelty. Animal Control was called to the home and since one of the dogs became aggressive, lunging at and attempting to bite the Sergeant the dog was shot. The dog remains in stable condition as of Thursday morning.
Bustamante was released on $100,000 bail early Thursday morning and has not court cases scheduled at this time.
