MURRIETA, Calif. – Rachel Colleen Cote, 22, was arrested on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, after forging a check using her name as the payee.
Murrieta Police said that Cote stole a checkbook and wrote a check to herself. The amount of the check was not disclosed by authorities but when they learned of the stolen check, they immediately made contact with Cote, since she was the payee.
“I mean come on, you wrote your own name on the check,” explained Murrieta Police officials. “That’s a pretty good clue.”
Cote was arrested for second-degree burglary, forged check, possession of a bad check, and violation of probation. She was booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Center. Cote is currently on probation as a result of a drug possession conviction from January 2019. She is scheduled to appear at the Murrieta Southwest Justice Center on Friday, June 7, 2019.
