ONTARIO – A 19-year-old Ontario mother is behind bars after running over her boyfriend and baby, leading to the baby’s death.
On Monday, May 28, 2018, at around 11:40 p.m. Ontario Police were called to the 500 block of West D Street. When they arrived they learned that Sarah Gomez ran over her 21-year-old boyfriend and 7-month-old daughter. A family member transported Gomez, her boyfriend, and the baby to a local hospital while emergency personnel was en route to the location. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, but through preliminary investigation, police learned that Gomez, her boyfriend, and the baby attended a family gathering a few blocks away from the West D Street home. Gomez drove everyone home, but during the drive, Gomez and her boyfriend began arguing. Her boyfriend grabbed the baby and got out of the vehicle.
Gomez remained behind the wheel and struck her boyfriend and the baby with the vehicle. The baby sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Gomez was interviewed and the vehicle she was driving was impounded. She was arrested with DUI alcohol/drugs resulting in injury/death, DUI .08 alcohol causing bodily injury or death, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, child cruelty producing great bodily injury or death. She was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
