THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – A quick-thinking woman stopped a suspect who attempted to steal her wallet from a grocery store on Tuesday.
The Thousand Oaks woman was shopping at a Trader Joes located at 125 N Reino Road. The woman had her unzipped purse in the shopping cart as she shopped for her groceries. She began looking in the produce section and a man approached her and began talking to her. The victim immediately thought that the male was attempting to distract her so she looked back at her purse and saw a female suspect holding her wallet.
The victim grabbed the female suspect by her shirt and yelled to alert the other customers at the store. She struggled with the suspect who dropped the wallet as she broke away from her grasp. Ventura Sheriff officials said that the woman detained by store personnel but the male suspect has yet to be detained.
“During the arrest, the female suspect identified herself as Javiera Carvallo, but upon further investigation, she was identified as Javiera Orly Rojas Alarcon,” sheriff officials said. Alarcon was booked into jail and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
