YUCAIPA – A vehicle theft at a Yucaipa business was stopped while in progress on Monday afternoon. At around 12:52 p.m. deputies from the Yucaipa station responded to the business in the 12000 block of Adams street. When they arrived they learned that the suspect, later identified as Erik Ramel Chu, a 29-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada transient had taken a pickup truck from the location.
The owner of the vehicle witnessed the theft and jumped into the passenger seat of the vehicle in an attempt to stop the theft. The suspect exited the moving vehicle and the owner of the vehicle was able to safely stop the vehicle. Chu fled, but the victim continued to pursue him until he caught and detained him near the 35200 block of Yucaipa Boulevard. Chu was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
