FONTANA – Seven suspects were arrested after an over 75-mile pursuit Wednesday afternoon. Just before 3:00 p.m. the California Highway Patrol dispatch was alerted to a high-speed pursuit on the I-15 North from the Fontana area. The white 2014 Toyota Camry were being pursued due to a drive-by shooting that occurred just prior at around 2:50 p.m. in the 1200 block of Tamarind Avenue near Baseline Road.
The driver failed to yield to Fontana police, entering the 210 East to the I-15 North and eventually at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour exiting on CA-395. The vehicle headed northbound through Hesperia, Victorville, Adelanto, and continued onto the eastbound SR-58. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s helicopter (40-King), Hesperia, Victorville units, as well as the CHP responded to assist in the pursuit that continued onto the eastbound SR-58.
“During the pursuit, a detective unit was involved in a collision with a civilian vehicle,” Fontana Police officials said in a news release. “The civilian was taken to a local hospital for observation with a complaint of pain. The officer was not injured.”
On the SR-58 a Fontana Police unit attempted a PIT maneuver and became disabled. The suspect vehicle continued on west SR-58. The vehicle eventually pulled over in North Edwards and the six occupants inside the vehicle were taken into custody. One suspect was located inside the trunk of the vehicle and was also taken into custody.
The suspects, all believed to be active gang members, were identified as 18-year-olds Phillip Alcala, Agustin Ahumada, Joshua Acosta, Michael Ramirez and a 15 and 17-year-old Hispanic male juvenile. Alcala, Ahumada, Acosta, and Ramirez were all booked into the West Valley Detention Center and the two juveniles will be booked into the Juvenile Hall.
