ADELANTO – A 36-year-old Adelanto man was arrested for beating his elderly roommate earlier this week.
On Sunday, October 7, 2018, at around 4:00 p.m., deputies received a report of a 74-year-old Adelanto woman who had been assaulted. Witnesses reported seeing the elderly woman inside the apartment complex in the 11200 block of La Habra in the City of Adelanto with bruises on her face. When deputies from the Adelanto station arrived, they learned that the victim and Roberto Angelo Benitez, her roommate were involved in a verbal altercation. The argument escalated, leading to Benitez hitting her in the face and head leaving visible bruising.
Benitez was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Elder Abuse and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
