ADELANTO – Keeping the desert areas clean is a mission that most Victor Valley cities have taken very seriously, from Apps to report illegal dumping, to clean up days, free dump days, and more cities have become proactive in their approach toward this ongoing issue.
Being a city not just about enforcement, and giving their residents the opportunities to dump legally; Adelanto has provided their residents with three free dump days this year. The events held at Adelanto Stadium, formerly known as Maverick’s Stadium are held in April, July and October, have had few stipulations and residents have come out in large crowds to take advantage of the generous offering.
The October, residents brought in over 70 tons of trash which does not include the weight of 105 mattresses and 29 pallets of E-waste, city officials said. The July event brought in nearly 55 tons, both being highly successful. “It was another successful event,” said Steve Peltier, Community Safety Manager. “October’s event is usually the slowest of all three that we offer, but we had people lined up at 7:00 a.m., a full hour before the event began.”
These three Community Clean-up events are hosted by the City of Adelanto and AVCO Disposal company. Residents are able to bring mattresses, furniture, household trash, televisions, computer monitors, small tires (without rims) and just about anything else that may have otherwise ended up in a field in Adelanto. “Our residents have shown time and time again that when given the opportunity to take advantage of the chance to not have to make a trip to the landfill —and avoid paying tipping fees — and help improve community image in the process, they take advantage,” said Richard Kerr, Adelanto Mayor. Three more of these events are set up for 2018, including April 21, 2018, July 21, 2018, and October 13, 2018.
In addition to these dates, the City of Adelanto offers four bulky item pickups with up to 5 items accepted each time. To arrange a large pick up you can call, 760-245-8607.
