HIGHLAND-San Bernardino County Investigators solve a 2 1/2 year multiple rape case with the help of (CODIS) Combined DNA Index System and two John Doe rape kit profiles. A San Bernardino Man was charged for the incidents by Highland Deputies.
On April 17, 2014, at around 8:30 p.m., a female adult victim was kidnapped in the vicinity of 9th Street and Victoria Avenue in the City of Highland. The suspect, later identified as Marco Antonio Garcia Perez, age 24 of San Bernardino drove the female victim to a field where he sexually assaulted the female victim. Perez then dropped the female victim off in an area of 6th St. and Pedley Road. The female victim reported the incident and was taken to the hospital where she had a rape kit performed. A John Doe DNA profile was located on (CODIS).
On May 28, 2015, at around 2:00 p.m. Perez committed another rape involving a female adult victim. This victim was walking on Pedley Road north of 6th Street in the City of San Bernardino. Perez approached the victim with a screwdriver in his hand, forced the victim into a secluded area, and sexually assaulted the victim while holding the screwdriver to the victim’s neck.
Perez was arrested for Possession of a Stolen car on November 8, 2016. When he was booked into jail his DNA was run through the (CODIS) Combined DNA Index System, where two John Doe DNA profiles for rape investigations matched Perez profile.
Investigators obtained a two million dollar warrant for Perez arrest on January 13, 2017, and he was booked into the West Valley Detention Center. Perez remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a San Bernardino court on January 25, 2017.
