APPLE VALLEY – An Apple Valley woman was struck and killed while walking in the 21700 block of Bear Valley Road on Monday night.
At around 9:15 p.m., Jessica Iliana Winn, 34, was walking across Bear Valley Road in the dark, just east of Navajo Road. Authorities said that the roadway was a very dark section of the road where Winn was struck by a 2017 Toyota 4Runner, only around 120 feet east of the crosswalk at Navajo Road.
The driver, Joshua Neylon, 32, of Apple Valley was driving eastbound at the time of the collision. Neylon left the scene, failing to stop to provide aid to Winn, who suffered major traumatic injuries. Neylon called the police around an hour after the collision reporting that he believed that he had struck a dog.
Deputies from the Apple Valley Station and emergency medical personnel responded to provide aid to the Winn and to investigate the collision. Due to her injuries being life-threatening, the Apple Valley Station Major Accident Investigation Team also responded to the scene. Winn was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center in the Town of Apple Valley and died as a result of her injuries at 9:53 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.
