SAN BERNARDINO – A 51-year-old Loma Linda man was arrested for felony evading and identity theft on Sunday evening. Just after 5:00 p.m. the deputy from the Central Station conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle at Electric Avenue and 48th Street in the City of San Bernardino. He approached the vehicle and contacted the driver identified as Joseph Omaghomi. As he approached the vehicle there was an overwhelming smell of marijuana coming from it.
Omaghomi was detained and the deputy conducted a search of his vehicle. During the search items consistent with identity theft including; personal information belonging to multiple citizens, and a substantial amount of blank checks. .The deputy went to his vehicle to inquire about the identities found, during that time Omaghomi ran back to his vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle stopped on the 1500 block of Edgehill Road where Omaghomi exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The deputies pursued the suspect on foot and were able to apprehend Omaghomi. He was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center for felony evading and identity theft. Omaghomi posted bail and was released late Friday night.
