PHELAN – An outdoor marijuana grow was located in Phelan on Wednesday afternoon. At around 1:45 p.m. Sheriff’s Marijuana Enforcement Team investigators served a search warrant on the vacant property located in the 15000 block of Sheep Creek Road. Authorities became aware of the marijuana grow after receiving reports from the public.
During the search, a large outdoor grow with 1500 marijuana plants was found at the location. Two subjects were on the property at the time of the search warrant execution. The size of the plants, both growing and recently harvested, indicated that the that the marijuana grow was there for several months. During the investigation, it was determined that 54-year-old Corona resident, Dean Wagner was responsible for the illegal marijuana grow. The site was littered with trash and several unpermitted structures, serving as greenhouses were located on the premises.
The County of San Bernardino has an ordinance prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity which includes outdoor marijuana cultivations. The Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division will continue to enforce California marijuana laws as well as the San Bernardino County Ordinances regarding marijuana cultivation and distribution. Persons found to be violating state marijuana laws and/or county ordinances are subject to fines, prosecution and seizure of property.
Wagner was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for cultivation of marijuana. A second suspect was questioned and released. The case will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office for possible charges against both suspects.
