Desert Hot Springs Woman Suffers Major Injuries After Crashing into Big Rig

DESERT HOT SPRINGS – A 21-year-old Desert Hot Springs woman suffered major injuries as a result of a traffic collision on Thursday. At around 12:13 p.m. the Indio area California Highway Patrol (CHP) was dispatched to the area of Dillon Road, south of Berdoo Canyon Road. When they arrived, they found Dalilah Castillo-Herrera who was driving a 2014 Nissan Versa, with major injuries. Through investigation, it was learned that the Nissan was driving northbound on Dillon Road, South of Berdoo Canyon Road.

A 25-year-old Indio man later identified as Steven Rodriguez was driving a big rig with two trailers, north of the Nissan. Rodriguez was making a left turn out of a driveway on the east side of Dillon Road. As he made the turn, the front of the Nissan struck the left side of the rear trailer, causing major damage to the Nissan. Castillo-Herrera who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center for the treatment of her injuries. Rodriguez was not injured. Dillon road was closed in both directions for around an hour and fifteen minutes.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
