Barstow High School Teacher Arrested for Illicit Sexual Relationship With Female Student

BARSTOW, Calif. – A Barstow High School teacher was arrested on Friday for alleged sexual abuse of a 16-year-old female student.

Barstow deputies responded to the report of a suspected inappropriate relationship between a Katherine Oneil, 51, of Barstow, and a student at the school. Oneil is employed by the Barstow Unified School District and has been on administrative leave since October of 2018. Detectives from the Crimes Against Children Detail assisted with the investigation. The victim was interviewed regarding the allegation of sexual abuse.

Detectives discovered that Oneil and the 16-year-old girl engaged in an illicit sexual relationship. Oneil also exchanged explicit text messages with the minor, some containing obscene matter. On Friday, March 15, 2019, Oneil was arrested for Oral Copulation with a Minor, Penetration with a Foreign Object, Annoying and Molesting a Minor, and Sending Harmful Matter to a Minor.

She was booked at the High Desert Detention Center. On Saturday, March 16th, Oneill posted $100,000 bail and was released from custody.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims and are releasing Oneill’s booking photograph.
