BARSTOW – A 23-year-old Barstow man was arrested after stealing his friend’s father’s vehicle after stealing several items from a Barstow Walmart store on Monday.
At around 4:25 p.m. Barstow Police were called to the Walmart store regarding a suspect stealing several items from the store. The reporting party explained that two men walked into the store together and one stole multiple items then left the store and entered a white sedan in the parking lot. As the officer arrived, he saw a white sedan traveling west on Sunrise Street towards Higgins Road at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to catch the vehicle, but was unable to. An area check was conducted, but they were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
An officer responded to the store and made contact with the loss prevention agent who pointed out a second male, identified as Adam Pinkus. The officer contacted Pinkus who told him he was not involved in any theft and his friend, Marcellus Nash left the store to sit in the vehicle to wait for him. The officer learned that the white Lexus belonged to Pinkus’ father.
During the interview with Pinkus, the officer received information that there was a traffic collision involving a 4-door white Lexus in the 300 block of Higgins Road. The caller told dispatchers that the vehicle collided with a wall and then fled the area. The officer went to the parking lot along with Pinkus where they found that the vehicle was missing. Pinkus told the officer that he did not give anyone permission to drive the vehicle and he then called his father, the registered owner of the vehicle to tell him what happened. Pinkus’ father arrived and reported the vehicle stolen.
The officers found Nash’s address and went to his home, where they found the vehicle parked in front of the home with damage consistent with the collision. Nash was located inside the home and was arrested for stealing the vehicle. He was taken to the Barstow Police station where he was questioned and subsequently booked into jail.
