Barstow Man Arrested for Pulling a Gun on Man During Theft From Rite Aid Store

BARSTOW – An 18-year-old man was arrested for an assault after stealing alcohol from a Barstow Rite-Aid on Friday morning. At around 8:45 a.m. the suspect, later identified as Martice Hood walked into the store located at 1380 Barstow Road wearing black and white pajama pants and a white t-shirt. He went to the liquor section at the store, took two bottles of alcohol and fled the business.

While leaving he dropped his cell phone and a 33-year-old man who witnessed the incident, saw him drop the phone in the store parking lot, so he picked it up and walked it into the business to give to the clerk. Hood saw this and followed the man and his fiancé back into the business. As he gave the phone to the clerk, Hood walked behind the counter to get the phone from the clerk, but the clerk threw the phone to the man’s fiancé. Hood jumped back over the counter and pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun from the waistband of his pants and pointed it at the man. He and his fiancé in fear for their life returned the phone to the suspect who fled toward the 1300 block of Barstow Road.

Police conducted an area search and the suspect was located on Barstow Road. The suspect was taken back to the location where the male victim and witnesses positively identified Hood as the person who committed the crime. He was arrested for Assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Substation in Barstow where he is being held in lieu pf $50000 bail.  Hood  is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, for an arraignment hearing.
