BARSTOW – A jury found a Barstow man guilty of a March 2015, murder after a 4-week trial on Thursday, November 2, 2017.
On March 2, 2015, just before 8:50 p.m. police responded to multiple reports of shots heard in the 300 block of South First Avenue in Barstow. When they arrived they found Emmitt Burns lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, but despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead a short time later. The investigation was ongoing, and the through identification the suspect was identified as Domenic Silva Jr.
Murder charges were filed the following month on April 3, 2015, and an arrest warrant was issued for Silva. One April 28, 2015, Silva was located in an apartment complex in the 2000 block of West San Bernardino Street in the City of Colton. Silva was placed under arrest without any further incident. He was booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail. Years later, in October 2017, while remaining in custody, Silva went to trial for the murder of Burns. The jury found him guilty of first-degree murder with special allegations of using a firearm found to be true. Silva will be sentenced in January 2018.
