CAJON PASS, Calif. – A Bloomington man lost his life following a traffic collision on the Cajon Pass on Saturday.
At around 11:30 p.m. CHP officials said the the 19-year-old Bloomington man was driving a 2019 Kia Sol southbound on the 15 freeway just north of SR 138. A 45-year-old Long Beach man was driving a 2013 Toyota Prius in the same direction and in the same area at around 60-65 miles per hour. For reasons that remain under investigation, the Kia hit the back of the Toyota, then traveled out of control onto the right shoulder. The Kia overturned down the dirt and brush embankment.
The occupants in the Toyota were not injured as a result of the collision. The driver of the Kia died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the Kia driver has not been released at this time.
The collision remains under investigation, anyone with information is asked to contact Officer M. Carillo at the San Bernardino CHP Office at (909) 383-4247.
