HESPERIA – The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Dive Team responded to recover a body floating in the Aqueduct in the area near El Centro Road and Cottonwood Avenue on Monday evening.
At around 5:20 p.m. Sheriff’s dispatch received the report of a possibly dead body floating southbound toward Ranchero Road along the aqueduct. The reporting party walked along side to follow the body in order to help lead authorities to the body. A deputy arrived at the scene at around 5:25 p.m. and confirm that a partially decomposed body was floating through the middle of the aqueduct.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Dive Team and San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived at the scene to assist in the recovery. The body was pulled from the fast-moving water at around 5:50 p.m. Media was asked to remain out of the area to protect the integrity of the investigation, which was described by deputies at the scene as a crime scene.
Sheriff’s officials requested information from Sheriff’s dispatch to determined if any missing person reports were recently made in the surrounding areas. The body was collected by San Bernardino Coroner’s officials, who will positively identify the body and determine the cause of death. The finding remains under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
