BARSTOW, Ca. – The Barstow area California Highway Patrol (CHP) is asking for any information that can lead to a vehicle theft suspect who led officers on a pursuit on Thursday.
At around 6:09 p.m. the CHP-Victorville reported to the Barstow CHP that there was a vehicle pursuit traveling north on the 15 freeway north of Wild Wash Road. The 2015 maroon Toyota Camry was stopped for speeding but fled when the CHP Sergeant attempted to make contact with him during the stop. The Barstow area CHP joined the pursuit at Hodge Road where the suspect continued at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The suspect crashed as he exited at Outlet Center Drive near an open desert area north east of the 15 freeway. The driver, a Hispanic man, fled on foot into the open desert and despite an area search he was not located. The vehicle was learned to have been stolen out of the City of Fontana.
This incident is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Barstow Area. If
