Crestline Assailant Shot Dead by Victim

CRESTLINE, Calif. – An assault victim shot and killed an assailant at  Goodwin’s Market in Crestline on Thursday night.

At around 9:17 p.m. deputies were called to Goodwin’s Market, located at 24089 Lake Gregory Drivefor the report of shots fired in the parking lot. When deputies arrived they found Sammy Davis, 29, of Crestline, suffering from a gunshot wound. An off-duty nurses was with him administering medical aid. Davis was transported to St. Bernardines Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:12 p.m. Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. 

“Detectives found that the victim was leaving Goodwin’s Market and was approached by three men in the parking lot,” San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said.  “The victim recognized one of the men as an associate of the suspect that assaulted him in January 2019, which resulted in hospitalization.”

The victim, a 27-year-old Crestline man, felt threatened as the three approached him. As they continued to approach, taunting him, he reached into his vehicle to grab a firearm. “One of the subjects, Sammy Davis, grabbed the victim’s shirt and punched him multiple times,” Sheriff’s officials said. “The victim fired his gun, striking Davis and stopping the assault.”

The investigation will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office for review.
