APPLE VALLEY – The death of a man led to the finding of stolen vehicles, firearms, and the operation of a chop shop.
Authorities said that on Friday, June 8, 2018, at around 10:12 a.m. a deputy from the Victor Valley Station responded to the 12600 block of Laguna Seca Drive in Apple Valley for the report of a deceased 61-year-old man. The reporting party stated that he went to visit Dennis Coss, when he found him dead inside the home. No foul play was suspected in the death and the Coroner was called. While waiting for the coroner to arrive, the deputy noticed numerous vehicles and vehicle parts on the property. The deputy ran the VIN numbers on the vehicles, and a Husqvarna motorcycle was confirmed stolen. The SANCATT Unit was called to the scene and responded with a search warrant. A second motorcycle was also confirmed stolen and other vehicles were located that had obliterated VIN numbers.
While at the home, the deputy learned that there was a warrant for the property. The deputy also learned that the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station Gang Team was looking for James Wilkins, 64, who was living in the home. The search warrant was served and several firearms were removed from the home. Wilkins, a convicted felon was prohibited from possessing firearms.
