CHINO, Calif. – The 26-year-old man who caused a traffic collision killing a 28-year-old deputy has been identified.
At around 12:31 a.m., Sunday, February 17, 2019, officers from the Chino Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded to the intersection of Edison and Euclid Avenues for the report of a traffic collision. The investigation revealed that San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas O’Loghlin, 28, of Chino Hills was driving south on Euclid Avenue in a 2006 Chevy Silverado. Yijie Mao, 26, of Alhambra was traveling west on Edison Avenue in a 2014 BMW compact SUV when he struck the Chevy.
O’Loughlin was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mao was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. He was booked into the Central Detention Center for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. The road way closed for around nine hours for the investigation.
