THERMAL – A 35-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested for driving under the influence on Friday authorities said. At around 2:22 a.m. Coachella Police responded to Highway 86, north of Airport Boulevard for the report of the two vehicle traffic collision.
Through investigation, which included witness statements, officers learned that a black Hummer H2 and a white GMC flatbed truck were both traveling northbound on Highway 86 near Airport Boulevard. The driver of the Hummer, later identified as Roberto Gonzalez, drifted into the lane the GMC was in. The impact caused the GMC to overturn, blocking both northbound lanes.
The occupants of the GMC were taken to the hospital for the treatment of minor injuries. Gonzalez was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and was booked into the county jail in Indio.
