APPLE VALLEY, Ca. -A month after a devastating loss, an Apple Valley family is seeking justice for their brother who was murdered and left in his vehicle on the 15 freeway.
Kristin, the sister of 48-year-old John Barreras said that their family believes that authorities are doing their jobs seeking the person who murdered him, but they are anxious for an arrest, which will provide some closure. She told a 24/7 Headline News reporter that everyone loved her brother and that she could not see him having an enemy. She also said that there is no indication that she knows of that would have made her believe that his death was a result of a robbery.
Barreras lived in the Town of Apple Valley and was his mother’s primary caregiver. “He had a promising future and was leaving to take a promotion at Harbor Rail in Texas that following Monday,” said Kristin Barreras. “Harbor Rail shut the plant down for his service, it tells your how well liked he was.” She also said that her brother was turning 49 years old only days after he was found deceased.
Authorities said that John Barreras was discovered on the 15 freeway in the area of Dale Evans Parkway on August 14, 2019, at around 6:40 a.m. He was found deceased in his black Toyota Avalon, which was parked on the shoulder of the freeway. Homicide detectives arrived at the scene in order to investigate his death.
There is not much information is being released, but his sister said that he was at Jacko’s located on Bear Valley Road in the City of Victorville the night leading up to his murder. She said that he may have also stopped by his ex-girlfriend’s home that night.
It is unknown how long John Barreras was at the location before he was found deceased in his vehicle. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information, or anyone who witnessed the incident, is asked to contact Detective Oscar Godoy, Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail at (909)387-3589.
