Firefighters Successful in Fighting Fontana Pallet Fire

FONTANA – San Bernardino County firefighters responded to a pallet fire early Sunday morning. At 4:23 a.m. firefighters responded to the report of a fire in the area of Cherry Avenue and Rancho Vista Road. While enroute firefighters witnessed flames and received additional information indicating a large area of pallets were on fire in the 14000 block of Merrill Avenue. Firefighter arrived and located the pallet fire, not far from an RV repair facility. A water supply was secured and firefighters, using large volumes of water, went into a defensive attack.

Due to the exposure to the RV repair facility, a 2nd alarm was requested allowing for a larger response. Firefighters were able to knock the fire down within around 1 hour. The fire was held to approximately ¼ acre and to the 10-12’ high stacks of pallets. The RV repair facility did not sustain any damage as a result of the fire. A total of 31 San Bernardino County Fire department fire personnel, the Glen Helen Inmate Fire Crew, and Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department responded to the scene.

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
